3 Hour Introduction to Glass Beadmaking
in Venetian soda lime glass
with Julia Spall
A 3 hour session for 2 people at £60 per person, or one-one-tuition at £90. Phone text or e-mail to arrange an appointment.
In a few of hours I will show you the fundamental skills of this fascinating and beautiful craft. After a safety induction you will quickly be making your own glass beads by melting coloured rods of Venetian soda-lime glass in an open flame, using a technique called 'lampworking'. In this 3 hour session I will demonstrate some techniques that you will then go on to practice. Depending on your progress you could make up to 5 or 6 beads. I will show you how to form a basic bead, and then add decorations such as dots and stripes. The beads will then be kiln annealed ( held at a particular temperature to reduce internal strain in the glass and make them very durable) and posted to you once cooled and cleaned.
Aprons and protective glasses are provided. Wear clothes you feel comfortable working in, and if you have long hair please tie it back.
